Paulina Schulenburg (mezzo-soprano) and Maren Donner (piano) have enjoyed a long-standing collaboration and friendship through their joint studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts. This evening, the two artists will present excerpts from two joint musical projects from the last three years. The project "Frauenbilder" is dedicated to works by the famous composers Alma Mahler Werfel and Clara Schumann.

These two women are linked not only by the fact that they were married to two of the most important composers of their time, but also by the fact that they created numerous compositions of their own. Their music provides an insight into the emotional world of these fascinating personalities, who were both ahead of their time and far removed from the traditional image of women. While rehearsing together, Maren and Paulina discovered an enthusiasm for songs by Edvard Grieg. This gave rise to Maren's idea of recording a CD with works by Grieg, thus adding another composer to the Romantic repertoire. Grieg's first teacher was his mother, who had studied composition and was also a well-known concert pianist. This brings us back full circle to "strong images of women".
