Free admission.
With:
ALMOST: Fabian Dudek, Felix Hauptmann, Ruth Goller, Sun-Mi Hong
NOW IS URGENT: Ignaz Schick, Douglas R. Ewart
MODERATION: Maxi Broecking
With his quartet ALMOST, Cologne-based saxophonist Fabian Dudek focuses on collaborative strategies and a collage process in which the compositions are developed into graphic and visual sketches. ALMOST will also be presenting an unplugged sample live as a teaser for their concert on January 18 at Konzerthaus Berlin am Gendarmenmarkt.
NOW IS URGENT. What does the present sound like in the face of disruption and uncertainty? AACM saxophonist Douglas R. Ewart is convinced that healing lies in sound. Using a variety of sound tools and self-made instruments, he explores Afro-diasporic experience and the politically unsettling present through sounds and resonance spaces in a duo with Berlin-based turntablist and sound researcher Ignaz Schick. Ewart and Schick will also present sound samples for their performance at the Konzerthaus Berlin on January 19.
Journalist and author Maxi Broecking will interview the artists about their projects and how improvised music in particular can provide much-needed coping strategies.
