Sunday Special: QUBUR

Slow Jazz * Classical Pop * Deep Ambient

Let there be jazz. Jazz without improvisational "show-off" habits. Instead, since 2018, the line-up of saxophone/clarinet, piano/keyboards, bass & drums has been using effects to create a unique band sound that is all about the deep connection between the musicians and the audience: Qubur - simplicity and simple beauty always win out over artificial complexity and technical show-offs. Nevertheless, the music never comes across as profane.

While the very broad sound spectrum ranges from chamber music to loud band sounds, the quartet's largely classical background is particularly noticeable in the dynamic and rhythmic subtleties. The agogic playing is very distinctive thanks to the diverse experience of the band members. The pieces written by pianist Linus Haagen are woven live into a unity that often comes across as calm and meditative, but can also transform into more animated or even ecstatic states depending on the mood and audience.

Music in the style of Jakob Bro, ADHD or Nils Frahm, but also reminiscent of Bohren & Der Club Of Gore.

In the summer of 2022, there was a reading by actress Blanche Komerell with texts by Anne Frank and improvised music by Qubur. Otherwise, the band tours German and Dutch jazz clubs, music pubs and alternative cultural centers. Today, the band can be seen live in Dortmund for the first time at the Sunday afternoon jazz café at subrosa...unten, at the harbor.
