SUNRISE: A SONG OF TWO HUMANS Sonnenaufgang - Lied von zwei Menschen F. W. Murnau USA 1927 35 mm English ZT (silent version) 91'
A film of traces of light, electrification, shadows and shades. Together with his cinematographers Charles Rosher and Karl Struss, who won the first Oscar for SUNRISE in 1929, Murnau created complex lighting dramaturgies for the film's individual locations, where a dramatic triangular story unfolds. A sophisticated city beauty (Margaret Livingston) spends her summer vacation in the country, where she seduces a young villager (George O'Brien) and persuades him to kill his wife (Janet Gaynor). Drunk with love, he agrees, but comes to his senses at the last moment.
