The building on Pariser Platz has been used by the Academy of Arts since 1907, with an interruption by the National Socialists, who claimed it for themselves from 1937 to 1945. As the home of the GDR's Academy of Arts, it was located close to the Berlin Wall. Since 1993 it has been the seat of the united academy, and since 2005 the new glass building has surrounded the historic rooms. Traces of the past can be found throughout the building, speaking witnesses to history.
