Christoph Peters has long been regarded as one of the country's most Japanophile authors. Several of his novels are set in Japan, he is trained in the traditional tea ceremony and collects Japanese ceramics. But for some time, it remains a fascination from afar: decades pass before he sets foot on Japanese soil for the first time, during which he studies the country in depth. He recorded the experiences of his first visit in his travelogue Days in Tokyo. The text is a reflection on the foreign and the familiar, on projections and clichés, on what he has read and what he has experienced. Above all, however, it is a declaration of love to a fascinating and contradictory country. Peters talks about Japanese culture, art and spirituality - and about what our encounter with it reveals about ourselves. Moderator: Claudia Dichter
