TANIN NO KAO The Face of Another Hiroshi Teshigahara Japan 1966 35 mm jap. OmeU 122'
His bandaged face, disfigured by an accident, alienates businessman Okuyama not only from his wife, but also from society, which he regards with suspicion. His doctor gives him a new face with a deceptively real-looking mask, which Okuyama uses to lead a double life with a different identity. What remains is his inability to communicate with other people, which leads to a deep personality crisis. The feeling of profound isolation finds its visual counterpart in a slightly surreal setting, in doublings, fragmented and distorted image sections.
