FrauVonDa// dives into the underwater world of the endangered Baltic Sea. An international concert and art project with guests from Finland, Germany and Iran.
The Baltic Sea is the youngest sea on earth. Evolution has taken a unique and fragile path in it over the last 8000 years. FrauVonDa// sets off on a journey, dives, listens, marvels and asks: how much do we know about this sea, its inhabitants and their subjective environments? FrauVonDa// explores the acoustic, tactile and visual phenomena with her project partners in research trips to Ahrenshoop and the autonomous region of Åland in the middle of the Baltic Sea, an archipelago of over 6000 individual islands that formally belongs to Finland, and explores the philosophical and narrative possibilities of today's Baltic Sea.
Inspired by research findings on the sensory perception of marine animals, the millennia-old sturgeon, the symbiotic community structures between bladderwrack, plankton and schools of fish, and not least inspired by the stories of the human inhabitants of the Baltic Sea, FrauVonDa// unfolds an idiosyncratic narrative of the Baltic Sea ecosystem, in the midst of a TERRAPOLIS worth living in. (D. Haraway). We humans, with our specific senses and interpretations, are only a small part of this TERRAPOLIS.
With a libretto by the award-winning Nature Writing authors Michaela Vieser and Isaac Yuen, FrauVonDa// tells of the not-to-be-spoken, the not-told and the not-seen - and of the necessity of balance. THE Å//A UNIVERSE - HIDDEN SONGLINES OF THE BALTIC SEA fans out the artistic research as a panorama in various formats: in two installations/exhibitions, an international audio walk, artistic-political panels, workshops and a transtraditional-contemporary concert piece.
