The ballroom subculture emerged in New York in the 1970s as a reaction of black and Latin American queer and trans* people to their marginalization in a cis-heteronormative, white society. Participants, who have been preparing for months, compete against each other in 15-20 categories, including:

- Face: Flawless, beautiful faces
- Body: Self-confidence and impressive bodies
- Runway: Model catwalk performance
- Performance: Voguing, an expressive dance style based on fashion poses, known from Madonna's "Vogue"

This event celebrates diversity and promotes respect for diversity. It is aimed at members of the international ballroom scene as well as queer and trans* BIPOC and allies in the Rhine-Neckar region.
