Fresh Blood Award

In the FRESH BLOOD section, Fantasy Filmfest presents first or second films by as yet unknown directors and lets viewers vote for their favorites in an audience competition. The winning film will receive the audience award - the FRESH BLOOD AWARD. Voting takes place at every FRESH BLOOD screening with voting cards that are distributed on site. On the voting cards, 1-5 stars can be awarded for each film. The winner will be announced at the end of the festival.

The Substance

Why are the new French female filmmakers devoting themselves so passionately and radically to body horror? Like Julia Ducournau in her unleashed Cannes winner TITANE, Coralie Fargeat also takes on the painful genre in her new film after REVENGE with an astonishing lack of taboos that is thrilling, but can also be off-putting in all its consequences. Fargeat is well aware of this risk. She chooses her cinematic means with great calculation, gradually leading us closer to the abyss of absurdity, an increasingly extreme monstrosity, until she shatters all dreams in blood soup in the ludicrous finale.
