THE VISION BLEAK are back in the luxury class: with their seventh album "Weird Tales", the German metal duo pay monumental tribute to the American pulp magazine of the same name as well as other stories full of mysticism and dark fantasy. The album consists of a single track, which is divided into internal chapters. These tell eerily beautiful stories, set poems to music and are inspired by the classic literature of horror and the macabre. Among others, THE VISION BLEAK refer to important authors of the legendary Weird Tales magazine such as H. P. Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith. But they also allude to other great masters of fantastic literature such as Edgar Allen Poe and Lafcadio Hearn, whose "Fantastics and Other Fancies" had a strong influence on this album. For this homage, THE VISION BLEAK pull out all the stops of their enormous musical skills. The chapters cover the entire stylistic spectrum from extravagant gothic rock to gloomy doom to harsh black and death metal parts - and pretty much everything in between. All the exciting elements that the duo's followers have come to love and appreciate are represented on this album: the dramatic and theatrical, the rough and heavy, the melancholic and eerie, but also catchy and symphonic moments. All these strands are woven into a dense tapestry of sound that is held together by a recurring ebb and flow reminiscent of classical compositions. THE VISION BLEAK emerged from the friendship between guitarist, bassist and singer Markus Stock aka Ulf Theodor Schwadorf and drummer and singer Tobias Schönemann aka Allen B. Konstanz. After initial experiments in the direction of gothic rock, THE VISION BLEAK found their true calling when the duo began to incorporate their shared love of the horror genre. Their debut album "The Deathship Has a New Captain" (2004) was an instant hit in both gothic and metal circles and is now considered a classic. As the debut album was thematically based on major horror films, the Germans aptly named their style: horror metal. With the following albums, THE VISION BLEAK cultivated a reputation as guarantors of stylish and high-quality music. Thematically, all works revolve around the horror genre: "Carpathia" (2005) was followed by "The Wolves Go Hunt Their Prey" (2007) and "Set Sail to Mystery" (2010), "Witching Hour" (2013) and "The Unknown" (2016). THE VISION BLEAK, the masters of horror metal, present the world with their most ambitious work to date: "Weird Tales". This exceptionally beautiful and heartfelt homage to the golden age of fantastic literature is musical poetry. The listener should listen carefully, but should always be on their guard.
