Tomoko Sauvage: Waterbowls

INTERNATIONAL SUMMER FESTIVAL 2024

Tomoko Sauvage is a Paris-based Japanese sound artist who studied jazz piano in New York and performs in renowned museums from the Palais de Tokyo in Paris to the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid. With her Waterbowls, she has developed a "natural synthesizer": an electro-acoustic instrument made of porcelain and glass bowls with water, electronics and underwater microphones. Sauvage plays her Waterbowls live on the forest stage of the Festival Avantgarden: through random percussion with water droplets and hydrophonic feedback controlled by manual water waves, the artist creates a fragile, metaphysical sound sculpture from natural elements and technology.
