Tubi Malcharzik & Team »Paskudnik«

PICK OF THE DAY Theater
PICK OF THE DAY
You cannot miss this event.
In the organizer's words:

"Paskudnik" is a post-migrant drag persona lost in the crossing - crossing the border between Germany and Poland, between past and future. "Paskudnik" is a word that often left the grandfather's lips to call the grandchild. In memory, it moves between dining table, soccer match, parasite and disgust. There is no clear translation. What exactly the term means remains unclear. With "Paskudnik", Tubi Malcharzik takes a queer look at his own German-Polish family history and sets out in search of this familiar but undeciphered hole in the collective family memory.

One hundred years after the referendum in the border region of Upper Silesia and fifty years after the family arrived in the Friedland border transit camp in the Federal Republic of Germany, Tubi Malcharzik takes the word "Paskudnik" as a starting point to retrace German-Polish migration history together with an interdisciplinary team. Through immersive soundscapes, narrative fragments and imagination, they open up a queer and post-migrant space of memory. They invite the audience to the dining table of an Upper Silesian family celebration and to the interface of a dating app, until these places connect for the duration of a song. Using a red velvet dress, myths about high cheekbones and songs by t.A.T.u. and Peter Alexander, the performance touches on questions of gender roles and sexuality, as well as German-Polish memory culture and post-migrant reality.

About Tubi Malcharzik

TubiMalcharzik (no pronouns, they/them) lives and works as a performer, dramaturge and DJ in Hanover and Vienna. Based on autobiographical experiences, Tubi deals with queer memory, abstract drag, German-Polish migration history and seemingly impossible duets - both in solo performances and in the form of collective works. In 2020, Tubi Malcharzik showed the solo "Comeback" in the Schwankhalle. In 2021, Tubi joined forces with Leah Fot, Charlotte Lauber and Cäcilia Wosnitzka for the soundwalk "Funken bis Uranus" through the Bremen district. For "Paskudnik", Malcharzik is working with collaborators from the performative arts and from the field of club culture and music.
