We, "young bauhaus", are a community of young people who want to engage with art and Bauhaus. To be "young bauhaus", we need a space, material and each other. That's why we meet weekly at the temporary bauhaus archive and work together artistically, drawing, discussing, planning and tattooing lemons.
From May 9 to June 12, we will be presenting our exhibition "Unfolding Futures. The Art of Growing Up". With our artworks, we are approaching the topic of growing up - a phase of change in which you learn a lot of new things and look back on your own past for the first time. When do you actually become an adult and does this process ever end? What do we leave behind and what do we gain? Who determines our future? What are growing pains and when you outgrow them, where do you grow to?
We want to share our personal stories of growing up and growing out and critically reflect on the struggles and resistance we encounter as we grow up. And take a look into utopian futures, into a world that might also grow up one day. It's about chewing gum machines and gray hair, putting down roots and developing visions, hiding from the world and showing ourselves to it.
Growing up is something we all have in common. The young students in Weimar, Dessau and Berlin also began a new phase of their lives in uncertain social times by attending the Bauhaus. As a school, the Bauhaus was a place of learning and always a place of self-discovery for young people. We have been inspired by their courage to experiment and their desire for freedom.
