Vanessa Novak

Vanessa Novak is a strong one-woman band and has been a fixture on the German Americana scene for years. She finds her themes in what moves many in everyday life: memories, love, disappointments and family life. Vanessa Novak turns them into really good, profound songs: Her words and images are finely placed, she observes sharply, with wit and dresses her lyrics in grounded music somewhere between folk, blues and country. She has a touching voice, which she combines with strong fingerpicking on the guitar. Together with her melodic singing, the result is a wonderful mixture of emotions set to music.

The German-American singer and songwriter was born in Detroit. She grew up in the Southwest Palatinate and now lives in Darmstadt. Vanessa Novak plays her own mixture of guitar-driven folk with depth, sometimes with a country touch, but always inspired by the blues - and thus creates her own unmistakable style.
As a musician, she has been performing her own songs live since 2006. She usually performs alone with her guitars, sometimes accompanied by guest musicians.
Following her debut album 'Traveling Heart' from 2008, her EP 'Bound To Change' was released in 2013, recorded with Markus Rill & The Troublemakers and produced by Rill & Hands On The Wheel head Tom Ripphahn. Both CDs received good reviews. In 2019 she released two singles 'Bright White Dress' and 'Old Friend'.

Vanessa recorded her latest songs, supported by the Gema grant 'Neustart Kultur', at Klangkantine Studio in 2022. The release of the first single 'Run' was in November 2023.

In addition to her solo performances, Vanessa organized the project 'Songwriting Ladies On Stage' in 2019 and 2020 and performed together with her songwriting colleagues Uta Desch, Tess Wiley and Maren Sequens, among others.
