Cologne's long history is also a history of the women who have lived and worked here. To mark International Women's Day on March 8, the Cologne Women's History Association will be a guest at the MiQua:forum on March 6. The historian and initiator of the association, Irene Franken, will present Jewish women's associations and activists
including, for example, Klara Caro, who set up a kind of educational organization for Jewish women in Theresienstadt concentration camp. Luise Straus-Ernst lived the model of the intellectual 'New Woman' of the Weimar Republic. The director of the Cologne Society
for New Music, Else Thalheimer, brought avant-garde composers to Cologne before 1933. Behind each name lies a moving fate that was characterized by great commitment, anti-Semitism and persecution.
