MiQua. LVR-Jüdisches Museum im Archäologischen Quartier Köln

A new museum is currently being built in and above the archaeological monuments directly in front of Cologne City Hall: the MiQua! The new museum in the quarterwill explore history and stories from 2000 years at this special location in the heart of the city.

MiQua will focus on topics relating to Jewish life in the city's history and Cologne's extensive archaeological heritage. A circular route in the basement will take visitors around 650 meters through findings from the Roman Praetorium as well as the city's medieval Jewish and goldsmith quarter. The new museum building on the square focuses on the history and culture of Cologne's Jewish population from their expulsion in 1424 to the present day. Again and again, the focus is on the people who shaped this history, acted as contemporary witnesses or dealt with the question of Jewish identity and Jewish places. This makes it clear how closely linked Jewish and non-Jewish history were and are in Cologne.

The museum project is a cooperation between the City of Cologne, which is building the museum, and the Landschaftsverband Rheinland, which is designing the exhibition and will later operate the museum.

Since the beginning of 2024, MiQua has been using a boardroom in the Red House at Alter Markt 31 in Cologne as an information and event venue. Until the official opening, curious visitors will have the opportunity to find out about the work of the future museum in the MiQua:forum.
