Enjoy Jazz likes to bring surprising projects to the stage - new collaborations that one would hardly have expected, but which arouse anticipation simply because of the names involved: this is the case with this year's opening concert, which is also a world premiere.

Pianist and composer Vijay Iyer, who the New York Times once described as a "social conscience, multimedia player, system developer, rhapsodist, historical thinker and multicultural door opener", meets pianist and healer Nduduzo Makhathini. Many influences come together in this duo concert: In the case of Iyers, these are South Asian and West African traditions; for the South African Makhathini, it is the music and rich jazz tradition of his homeland as well as his spiritual background of experience.

Both are united by a love of the avant-garde Afro-American jazz of the 60s and 70s, in particular John and Alice Coltrane. Two pianos, four hands, a thousand ideas - this can only be a brilliant evening!
