Rarely has tomorrow been so fraught with uncertainty as today: war, climate, polycrises. Hardly anyone is optimistic. "Humans are the beings who have the ability to imagine the future in such detail that they can create it," says futurologist Florence Gaub(Zukunft. Eine Bedienungsanleitung). She uses findings from neuroscience, psychology and philosophy to show how we imagine the "future" and create it in reality. Because we are currently in danger of losing it: the belief in our own power to shape our own lives.
Social psychologist Harald Welzer ("Everything could be different") is also keen to look constructively to the future. For him, one thing is certain: the world is there to be changed, not endured.
