The district of Lichtenhagen in the north-west of Rostock was built between 1972 and 1976. Today, over 14,000 people live in Lichtenhagen in the northwest of Rostock. The district is well connected to the Rostock S-Bahn and the city highway. Rostock's first and largest weekly market was opened here in 1990. Every Saturday was market day in the 5,000 m² parking lot in Flensburger Straße. Some of the goods were sold directly from the truck and within a few hours the boxes and trucks were empty. The locals queued up and the market was packed. Even today, it is still market day every Saturday. However, the weekly market in Lichtenhagen is now much smaller. Around 8 (up to 12 in the warmer months) traders await their customers from 08:00 to 13:00. You can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, fish products, baked goods, meat and sausage products, Spreewald cucumbers, flowers, eggs and Polish specialties. Fish is freshly smoked on site. From April, exotic plants and textiles will also be on sale. And if you get hungry, why not fortify yourself with a tasty kebab at the Mediterranean snack bar. You can park directly at the market.
