Women in the Dark

In the organizer's words:
„Women in the Dark” tells the story of over a dozen women trapped in Kyiv during the wartime. The play chronicles their experience in funny, sad, and creepy encounters as they grapple with the consequences of the war on everyday life. Without power supply and infrastructure, the simple maintenance of life becomes a challenge to be faced at wake, all over again.

The piece is a dark comedy that plays in the heart of Kiev. It looks at the situation through several close ups of real people, their deteriorating lifes and the glimmers of hope that shine along the lines of friendship, humor and survival instinct. The war’s many indirect consequences affect civilians all around the country. After Russia's decision to target infrastructure specifically, electricity and gas are rare resources that life is revolving around.

Their availability allows people to cook food, make phone calls, walk outside at night with street lights, turn on the lights at home and heat the flat in winter. However their absence gives rise to fear, hunger and violence. Governmental schedules to provide the bare necessities rarely seem to work and somewhere caught up in the mess, these 17 women try to live another day through the long months of Kiev in winter. www.ringtanz.de
