Galerie Crone was founded in 1982 by Ascan Crone and Mechthild von Dannenberg in Hamburg. In the almost 40 years of its existence, the gallery has made a name for itself as an integral part of and a driving force on the international art market. In both Vienna and Berlin, Crone operates one gallery space and one project space each. The gallery thus has four locations, at which it shows a total of 24 solo and group exhibitions per year.

Crone's programmatic focus is on contemporary art that confronts social realities and political challenges with an aesthetic awareness. It represents artists of different generations, origins, cultural backgrounds and sexual orientations, united by the goal of a free, tolerant, enlightened society and culture. In doing so, the gallery represents the full spectrum of artistic practices, media, and approaches: From painting to time-based media to sculpture and installation.

Artists represented by Crone over the past five years have been featured at documenta, the Biennale di Venezia, the Lyon Biennale, the Sharjah Biennale, and the Curitiba Biennale, among others. Her works are in major private and institutional collections, from MoMa New York and Centre Pompidou Paris to Museum Ludwig Cologne and Albertina Vienna.

Crone regularly participates in major international art fairs, including the Armory Show, New York; Arco, Madrid; Artissima, Turin; Art Cologne; Paris Photo; and Viennacontemporary.
