The Helmut Newton Foundation was established by Helmut Newton himself at the end of 2003. It is a foundation under Swiss law with its headquarters in Zurich. The purpose of the foundation, which operates internationally, is to preserve, protect and present the photographic work of Helmut and June Newton, who created their own significant body of portraiture under the name Alice Springs from 1970 onwards. At the time of the foundation, Helmut Newton transferred a large number of photographic positives to his foundation, which represent an essential part of his artistic work. In October 2003, the Helmut Newton Foundation signed a contract with the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, on the basis of which the Helmut Newton Foundation will permanently have the ground floor and the first floor of the former Landwehr Casino in Berlin-Charlottenburg at its disposal for exhibition purposes.

According to Helmut Newton's wishes, this foundation in his hometown of Berlin should not be a "dead museum" but a "living institution". Different aspects of his multi-layered, innovative and provocative work will be presented here in changing exhibitions. In the future, other artists and photographers will also be shown at the Helmut Newton Foundation, thus entering into a dialogue with Newton's work.
