The Herschelbad is located on square U3 in Mannheim's city center. The monumental neo-baroque exterior façade gives little indication that the interior features a wide variety of architectural forms that echo the ancient tradition of thermal baths and basilicas. The facilities are lavish: there are three swimming pools, baths, a Roman-Irish bath, a sunbathing area and a dog bath, a common facility at the time. During the Second World War, the building complex was considerably destroyed and the interior was rebuilt in a simplified form.
