The Impulse Theater Festival of the NRW KULTURsekretariat has been the most important platform for the independent performing arts in German-speaking countries for more than 30 years. We would be delighted if you would accompany us again this year through twelve eventful days. Here you can discover the theater of tomorrow today!

The core of the program is the SHOWCASE with guest performances of nine outstanding productions from the past season. Seven of them can be seen in various venues in Cologne. One production each will be shown in Bonn and Vienna. All productions were produced outside the municipal theater apparatus. They show what is special about the independent scene in a wide variety of different theater forms: from musicals to interactive happenings.

In Mülheim an der Ruhr, the festival worked with four groups of artists to develop a
STADTPROJEKT together with four artist groups: Conte Potuto, Rotterdam Presenta, TachoTinta and Tigers Kitchen are opening the SCHWIMM CITY. Can this place be an outdoor pool for everyone?

The AKADEMIE at FFT Düsseldorf offers a forum for the aesthetic and political self-understanding of the independent scene. On the first weekend, the festival looks back on the eleven academies that have taken place since 2018. On the second weekend, the Fonds Darstellende Künste will host one of its nationwide forums for art, freedom and democracy.

One production will be presented in Bonn, and one in Vienna. All the productions have been produced outside the city theater system. They show what makes independent theater so special in a broad range of different theater forms: from musicals to interactive happenings.

In Mülheim an der Ruhr the festival has devised a CITY PROJECT together with a consortium of artists, sports clubs and civil society stakeholders: SCHWIMM CITY in the MüGa Park by the Ringlok- schuppen. Can this place be an open-air swimming pool for everyone?

The ACADEMY at FFT Düsseldorf provides a gathering for reflection on the aesthetic and political identity of the independent theater. On the first weekend the festival will look back on the ACADEMIES that have been held since 2018. On the second weekend the Fonds Darstellende Künste will be our guest with one of their National Forums for Art, Freedom and Democracy.
