MaerzMusik 2024 focuses on conscious listening as an open-ended experience and at the same time emphasizes the ever-evolving network of musical interplay between different generations and trends. Together with the invited ensembles, artists, musicians and composers, the festival explores the multi-layered potential of music in a program that brings together performative arts, sound and artistic interventions.

The festival opens with an immersive sound encounter that revisits a key moment in the history of new and experimental music with Groupe de Recherches Musicales' Acousmonium: On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of François Bayle's invention, we will perform compositions for loudspeaker orchestra by composers* such as Beatriz Ferreyra, Eve Aboulkheir, François Bayle and others.
EnsembleKollektiv Berlin explores the realm of conscious listening with works by Helmut Lachenmann, Michelle Lou and Ashkan Behzadi, while the narrative of the intergenerational becomes visible with Simon Steen-Andersen's interpretation of Karlheinz Stockhausen's "Musik im Bauch", played by Les Percussions de Strasbourg.

With MaerzMusik 2024, we are also expanding last year's focus on the composer and artist Lucia Dlugoszewski: together with Marco Blaauw and Christine Chapman, we have compiled partly unfinished scores that have been reconstructed by Ensemble Musikfabrik. In addition, Dlugoszewski's percussive instruments will be used as replicas and her works written for dance will be restaged in collaboration with Katherine Duke, the Erick Hawkins Dance Company and together with Berlin dancers. Spread across the entire city, the "Topographies ofHearing" series also brings together installations and interventions by Christina Kubisch, Jessica Ekomane and Audrey Chen, among others.
