Urbane Künste Ruhr is a decentralized institution for contemporary art in the Ruhr region. Under the artistic direction of Britta Peters, it initiates projects in public spaces, exhibitions, programs for guest artists and events, often in collaboration with local and international partner institutions. One of the long-term cooperation projects is the permanent sculpture trail Emscherkunstweg.

Alongside Ruhrtriennale, Tanzlandschaft Ruhr and Chorwerk Ruhr, Urbane Künste Ruhr is part of Kultur Ruhr GmbH, based in Bochum, whose shareholders and public sponsors are the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Ruhr Regional Association.
