In „A Spectacle of Herself“ zeigt sich die Zirkusartistin Laura Murphy verletzlich und wagt die zutiefst persönliche Auseinandersetzung mit der Frage, was es bedeutet, Raum einzunehmen und gesehen zu werden. Laura Murphy thematisiert verschmitzt inwiefern Eigenschaften, die sie im alltäglichen Leben anecken lassen im Zirkus gefeiert und ausgespielt werden können. Kritik und ihre Liebe zum Zirkus fließen dabei nahtlos ineinander. Mit einem Augenzwinkern lässt sie große Themen wie mentale Gesundheit und persönliche Identität aufeinander los und erfindet en passant die Figur des Clowns im Zirkus neu.

In "A Spectacle of Herself", circus artist Laura Murphy shows herself as vulnerable and dares to take a deeply personal look at the question of what it means to take space and to be seen. In a daring mix of stand-up performance and aerial acrobatics she mischievously addresses the extent to which characteristics that make her weigh down or be bulky in everyday life can be celebrated and played out in circus. Her criticism and love of the circus flow seamlessly into one another. With a twinkle in her eye, she tackles major themes such as mental health and personal identity and, by the way, reinvents the figure of the clown in the circus.

"A Spectacle of herself" celebrates its German premiere in Cologne as a co-production with the CircusDanceFestival.
