We are all trying to do our bit for climate protection somewhere. But what does it actually look like when we go out and can you actually combine celebrating and climate protection ? We asked ourselves exactly this question and came across the"NULLfuture 2035" campaign by the Cologne Climate Council and the City of Cologne.
NULLfuture 2035? Cologne has set itself a major goal: We want to be climate-neutral by 2035 . This means ZERO greenhouse gas emissions in all areas of Cologne society.
And the best thing about it? We can all contribute - spoiler: Even if we're celebrating! 💚

GLORIA Köln
The well-known event venue in the heart of Cologne saves around 10,000 bottles a year thanks to a water tap system in the backstage area. The Gloria also avoids unnecessary waste thanks to a reusable cup system and the renovation of the cold stores and toilets also saves energy and water. The air conditioning system is also operated with a rotary heat exchanger. Shh! When we were there, we discovered that Gloria even collects its bottle caps. These are then collected by the "scrap bees" and recycled, as the material can be perfectly used a second time. The proceeds from this are donated. NICE!

Hostel, theater, bar or simply a creative place to get together - the shared apartment can do it all! They are also creative in their contribution to ZERO, because their urinals work completely without water. Here, biological capsules break down the urine scale. Crazy, isn't it?

Our neighbors at Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld are also committed to green measures: Refrigerator film to reduce energy consumption, LED event technology and natural electricity are just some of the sustainable points. They are also planning to purchase an electric cargo bike to become even more environmentally friendly.
Bumann & SOHN
Bumann & Sohn in Ehrenfeld is a real role model when it comes to sustainability. Here, wine is tapped directly from a barrel, making glass bottles superfluous. They also have a system for collecting rainwater, which is used for plants and toilets, saving around 30% of annual water consumption. A solar system on the roof provides an additional 50% electricity saving per year.
The"NULLfuture2035" campaign is a great initiative by the Cologne Climate Council in close cooperation with the City of Cologne. The common goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our city to zero by 2035. This requires the commitment of all of us - from the big companies to us party peeps.
On the campaign's website and social media channels, you can find out about many other projects and measures that are underway in Cologne to protect the climate. It's really impressive to see how much is already happening in our city - and we can all be part of this movement.
