The Kältebus München e.V.
Whenever the nights get colder and harsher, the Kältebus München is out and about. For many homeless people, survival would probably be much harder without the association. We introduce you to the Kältebus in more detail and tell you how you can support the non-profit organization.
The Kältebus has been operating in Munich since 2012. The mission of this very special bus is actually quite simple: to provide acute help for the homeless - without conditions or constraints. The people from the Kältebus don't ask anyone why they are living on the street, they simply help them. The volunteers distribute hot food, drinks, toiletries, sleeping bags, cookies, chocolate, tinned food and vouchers for municipal indoor swimming pools. These expenses are made possible by donations of money and food.
In contrast to other facilities for the homeless, this organization does not offer accommodation, but instead travels to the known locations where homeless people stay. During the fall and winter months, the cold bus is on the road from around 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. in the city center and at well-known locations such as Wittelsbacherbrücke, the underpass at Giesinger Berg, the underpass at Bavaria and Sonnenstraße.
However, the cold bus is not a 24-hour emergency aid facility. It does not distribute clothing and it is not possible to take people to inpatient facilities or provide medical care. For these cases, there is, for example, the Schiller 25 drop-in center or the station mission at the main train station. Another contact point for homeless people is the "komm" tea room.
