14. Litauisches Filmfestival Berlin: FEMALE SHORTS

In the organizer's words:

Labas!

The 14th edition of the LITHUANIAN CINEMA GOES BERLIN film festival will take place from November 8 to 10, 2024. Once again, the festival will show Berlin audiences the best short and feature-length films from Lithuania in the Sputnik and Acud cinemas, including new productions and festival highlights.

In 2024, the short film program FEMALE SHORTS will be shown with a focus on female directors from Lithuania. Five films will be shown as part of the program:

Number One (Numeris Vienas) by Milda Augustaitytė, in which twelve-year-old Arianas prepares for the Lithuanian Standard and Latin American Dance Championships with his partner. The couple must understand the adult world - learn to demonstrate masculinity, female seduction and self-expression.

Plica Polonica by Agata Tracevič, which is about the disease of the same name, plica polonica, which people used to believe in and which was supposed to make hair unkempt. The main character of the film - a girl with severely matted hair - goes in search of a "cure". She seeks answers from the most matted of them all - the infamous Baba Yaga.

The Nominees (Nominantai) by Birutė Kapustinskaitė, in which a group of actors return home after the National Performing Arts Awards. All were nominated, but none received an award.

The animated film The One Who Knows (Ta, kuri žino) by Eglė Davidavičė tells the story of Ūla, an introverted and anxious teenager who loves swimming. On an ordinary morning at swimming practice, Ūla experiences an unexpected adventure that makes her grow up, learn to accept herself and see her body in a new way.

In Severina Vaičiūnaitė's When I Was a Juvenile (Kai aš buvau malalietka), Sofija returns to her childhood home, where she seeks solace in a deeply felt memory from her youth, while Mykolas prepares for his departure. In one night in Vilnius, surrounded by unexpected twists and turns, she finds the courage to say goodbye and move forward, fueled by precious memories and an enduring friendship.
