In eigener Regie - Basteln und Bauen: Spielautos, Boote, Sitzmatten

In the organizer's words:

The Ye'kwana live in the Amazon rainforest. The boys show you how they carve bows and arrows. The children from Papua New Guinea knot a seat mat and children from a village in Cameroon build a toy car. What was the last thing you built yourself? What would you like to be able to make yourself?

The children have learned how to make films in workshops in their home towns. We are showing the films at the Humboldt Forum in a cinema experience that lets you participate in the children's lives. A presenter will guide you through the afternoon.

The films will be shown with German voices. Have a look at the exhibitions on the 2nd floor to see if you can find them.

TO THE SERIES

Playing with cars, building things, singing, laughing, learning - that's part of everyday life for many children in Berlin. But what about collecting firewood, catching fish or weaving baskets? Children from Cameroon, Papua New Guinea, Venezuela and Peru have learned how to make films and portray their everyday lives in workshops. They show how food is made in their home towns, how games are played and how local traditions or crafts are practiced.

These films can be seen twice a month at the Humboldt Forum - in a children's cinema experience that provides insights into diverse ways of life. Three short films with a thematic focus are shown each time. A moderator guides the children through the afternoon. The films are not only exciting for children aged 6 and over, but also for their younger and older siblings, brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends.

The following partners realized the films:

The Humboldt Forum and DOCUPERU have been working together since 2017. In 2019, we were able to accompany their "Caravan Documental" in northern Peru for a week, during which the films for "In eigener Regie" were made.
