Ausstellung LIMINAL SPACES - Dorothée Aschoff

In the organizer's words:

In the exhibition LIMINAL SPACES, tim is showing works by Dorothée Aschoff (*1965), a German artist who has won numerous awards. In her works, Aschoff explores the existential conditions of being human. What does it mean to set out, to set off or even to have to flee? What boundaries stand in the way? And which landscapes - whether stormy seas or rugged mountains - have to be overcome?

On the more than 1,000 square meters of exhibition space, visitors encounter fragile boats and sledges that the artist has created from thin layers of paper. Vulnerable vehicles in which people set off on an uncertain journey through perilous passages on water or land. The objects are integrated into Aschoff's expressive paintings in black and white and charcoal drawings illustrate the arduous nature of the paths taken - whether on the high seas or on stony ground. It is unclear whether the journey will end well for those involved.

The haunting drama in Aschoff's black-and-white pictures is finally given a completely new perspective in the last section of the exhibition. This narrative break finds its aesthetic expression in an exuberant use of color, with a bright blue dominating. The pictures give the impression of documenting the birth of a new planet in infinite space - a planet that gives rise to hope.

Aschoff's art deals with border spaces between a not-more and a not-yet, it describes passages of transition: liminal spaces. Such spaces bring us to a standstill, forcing us to pause. In this respect, this exhibition fits perfectly into the time "between the years" and the turn of the year.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog.
