"I love you, but I've chosen Entdramatisierung"* – 25 Jahre Postdramatisches Theater

Hans-Thies Lehmann's legendary book "Postdramatic Theater" was published in 1999 - a title (originally coined by Andrzej Wirth) that was perhaps even more powerful than the book itself: It gave the new worldwide trends in the performative arts the name under which they have been gathering ever since. 25 years later, influential theater makers from German-speaking countries are coming together to celebrate and reflect: Where does post-dramatic theater stand today? Is it still an exception, as Lehmann demanded? How does it differ in form and content from the still dramatically dominated repertory theaters? How does it react to current social trends?

To mark the 20th anniversary of Lehmann's book, the Kunststiftung NRW launched the book series "Postdramatic Theater in Portraits" published by Alexander Verlag, which is dedicated to the development of the new theater aesthetic since the 1990s. By September, 10 volumes will have been published. The venue for "I love you, but I've chosen Entdramatisierung - 25 Jahre Postdramatisches Theater "*, the FFT Düsseldorf, will also be celebrating its 25th anniversary in September 2024.
