As part of "utopia - european ensemble network for dance", the Italian Compagnia Zappalà Danza is making its third guest appearance at the HALLE Tanzbühne Berlin. There, the famous Italian choreographer Roberto Zappalà presents the German premiere of "Instrument Jam": through music and dance, he presents a boundless Sicily on stage, where tradition and modernity meet, intersect and merge.
"instrument jam" is the brilliant quintessence of the "instrument" trilogy, each of which Roberto Zappalà has dedicated to an instrument: the two traditional Sicilian instruments marranzano (jew's harp) and frame drum, as well as the modern percussion instrument hang, which was only invented in the 21st century. "instrument jam" brings all three instruments together for the first time in a choreography for seven dancers. On stage, the musical echo reverberates through the dance, creating new stimuli and resonances; echoes that unfold and in turn generate further echoes. Together they try to free Sicily from the corset of its stereotypes and traditions and find new interpretations, stories and thoughts.
