The short film program includes Maya Deren's debut MESHES OF THE AFTERNOON and four other works. The pioneer of avant-garde film, dancer, photographer and theorist began making films in the early 1940s. Going beyond traditional notions of time and space, she created subjective cinematic realities, combined film, dance, rituals, choreography and poetry, designed surrealistic dream worlds and cinematic choreographies, experimented with trick techniques and, last but not least, chiaroscuro moods.
