Do you believe in spring? Simon Wangen (cello) and Philipp Sutter (piano) pose the title of their new project as a question. Where Bill Evans formulated a demand in 1981, the two Cologne musicians are of the opinion that in times of uncertainty, crises and environmental destruction they can certainly raise a question mark. But apart from politics and world events: Do you believe in spring? Of course! It's never too late to start something new, to get creative and to test your own limits.

Simon Wangen is a classically trained cellist, Philipp Sutter is a trained jazz pianist. On this instrumental album, their different musical roots merge into a lively mixture of neoclassical, new jazz and Cinéma Nordique. Ten pieces are sometimes gloomy, sometimes wild, sometimes tender, always focusing on the dialogue between the two instruments, which harmonize so well. The subtle use of electronic effects constantly opens up new perspectives and builds a bridge to contemporary sound aesthetics. Cello and piano - this combination has been established for centuries, but can still add new facets in 2023. Do you believe in spring? begins stormy and agitated, oscillates between romantic - sad - beautiful moments and leads from a rather gloomy beginning to the final and eponymous piece in C major, which leaves the listener with a glimmer of hope......
