Flower power in the botanical garden

Flowers are probably the best way to make money on Valentine's Day. But it's kind of stupid not to give yourself any all year round and then arrive on this day. Not good!

That's why: Don't bring overpriced plants into your home, but rather go to where they grow. Namely to the botanical garden.

It is right next to Nymphenburg Palace Park and is one of the most important botanical gardens in the world with around 16,000 plant species. Quite impressive!

Afterwards, you and your date can look each other in the eye over coffee and cake in the really lovely café there - and then it's all good again.

The classic: movie date

© Jeffrey Gruszka

...unless you have a classic in mind afterwards:

Arrive together in the foyer, get some popcorn and jumbo-sized nachos, make yourself comfortable in the fluffy armchairs (often in heart red) and immerse yourself in the love story (or another story) on the big screen for two hours. The classic movie date? It never gets old!

Here you can find our movie recommendations for 14.02.

Theater evening for two

Another thing that always works: going to a cool event. And whether you're a regular theatergoer or haven't sat in front of a stage for a long time - an evening at the theater is always something special!

So check out the current performances and look forward to your favorite person, comfy theater seats and a rousing play. Our tip for February 14: Was ihr wollt at the Volkstheater. A play about love, lust and passion! What could be better for Valentine's Day?

Another piece? A concert? An exhibition? You can find the whole selection of events in our event calendar for February 14!

Love, desire and transformation. These three keywords describe the play "What You Will" by William Shakespeare in the broadest sense. But there is only one way for YOU to find out exactly what these three keywords mean: Go to the Volkstheater and see the play!

Wellness time-out in the water

Romance and sport somehow don't go together - at least in our eyes. But if you're going to see a sports facility from the inside on this particularly romantic day, please do so as non-sportily as possible. We can only recommend the heated outdoor pool at Munich's Nordbad. You don't swim here, you splash around. So good.

The whole thing can of course be turned into a real time-out so that February 14 is a day for body and soul - oh. How about a trip to Therme Erding? After a sauna, lotus lounge and tropical swimming pool, you're guaranteed to feel relaxed.

© Chris Jarvis

If you don't have enough time or money for Erding, you can also visit the Müller'sche Volksbad. The Jugenstilbad is wellness for the eyes. With every lane you swim, a little more stress falls away from you, plus there is the option of a massage and a fine, charming café where you can have breakfast, cake or even a "proper" meal.

We have put together eight more of our favorite saunas, pools, day spas and thermal baths for you to enjoy wellness in the Munich area. So relaxing!

Photo tour through unknown Munich neighborhoods

© Fredrik Ohlander

You don't always need big plans to spend time together: grab a map of Munich, a neighborhood you hardly know and just go!

And if you want a little photo challenge: find a house number 142 and discover the many unusual door handles, good-humored subway stations or street art monsters in our city!

Sunset at the Friedensengel

Well, here we come back to the somewhat kitschy corner. But in our defense: No Munich resident can escape the view from the Friedensengel, so it's legitimate.

So, wrap up warm, take a blanket and maybe a thermos flask of tea + shot and just wait together for the sun to set over the city. (It's certainly not as green outside as in our photo, but that hardly matters in the romantic twilight, right?)

And then you'll probably be cold and just want to go home. But at least the romantic part would be completely fulfilled. Incidentally, it can also be wonderfully combined with the next tip, because at least you'll get out of the house for a bit.

Indoor picnic

© Kate Darmody

Last but not least, an indoor picnic is ideal for couch potatoes, sick people and those returning home from the day's events. Simply make yourselves comfortable on the floor with blankets and cushions by candlelight, with a little wine, fruit, vegetables, good bread, some preferably fresh spreads and antipasti (available in Turkish grocery stores, for example).

The whole thing can also be easily combined with a home movie night - a rather unusual tip for us, as it has nothing to do with going out and being active. But hey, a day (or evening, if you haven't just taken the day off) in bed full of series is a must!

Special Events

Last but not least, some organizers have also come up with events that take place especially for Valentine's Day. If I were you, I'd have a look.

Soundtrack for Valentine's Day

Ah yes, here's our latest tip for the music of the day: we highly recommend our spring fever playlist to get you in the perfect romance mood!

And depending on your mood, we recommend our heartbreak soundtrack - after all, we don't want to overdo it with this damn romance...

So, we wish all newly in love, long-term couples, singles and those with the relationship status "It's complicated" a fantastic Valentine's Day. Because even the Beatles knew: All You Need Is love!
