While the active invisibilization of queer people from the social spheres to which they belong is becoming the norm, spaces of resistance, everyday life and possible futures are still being created, providing much-needed refuges of joy, love and ecstasy.
Many African LGBTQI+ people are regularly subjected to discrimination and violence that prevent them from living freely in the societies they are part of. In recent years, for example, anti-LGBTQI+ laws have been enacted in Uganda, Nigeria and Senegal. This conversation sheds light on the stories of resistance that have made it possible to continue living despite oppression. Papa De, Ayo Lawson & Uyaiedu Ikpe-Etim, and Marie Moïse share personal and collective stories and experiences of how they were able to assert themselves through trespassing, creating spaces of life, love and a possible future for queer communities in a hostile environment.
