Project description - Aramis Orchestra
What can music achieve in a world that is often out of sync? The Aramis Orchestra provides an answer - with over 80 young musicians from Mannheim and the entire Rhine-Neckar region, the project shows how creative collaboration and cohesion can work in our world. Aramis was founded with the idea that it is possible to unite a large number of young people through music, to encourage them in a creative process and thus to strengthen togetherness in society. Since then, the young people have been working for a better world with benefit concerts, artistically addressing the pressing issues of our time.
issues of our time.
Originally a trio, Aramis is now an entire orchestra that is organized and managed independently by its members. Where one would expect fixed hierarchies, responsibility arises from trust. The young people take the arrangement of the scores, the planning of concerts and even the staging of accompanying elements such as dance, theater, film, stage lighting and acrobatics into their own hands. As a project of the Interkulturelles Haus Mannheim, accompanied by Bradley Johnson from the Mannheim Music School, the ensemble has already performed
already performed at numerous prestigious events:
New Year's reception of the city of Mannheim Mozartsaal Rosengarten, Kunsthalle Mannheim at the end of the successful exhibition "Die Neue Sachlichkeit", Nationaltheater Mannheim Mannheimer Schloss, as part of the International Film Festival Mannheim Heidelberg and at the national competition Demokratisch Handeln in Berlin.
Over €8,000 has been raised for charity at the benefit concerts to date. For example, the last donation to the Abaana Foundation gave over 1000 disadvantaged children in Uganda access to education and food.
The project was awarded the Baden-Württemberg 2024 Youth Education Prize, the main prize in the Federal Democratic Action 2024 competition and was nominated for the German Commitment Award 2024 in the "Living Together" category.
Most recently, Aramis launched an international series of projects entitled "Protectors of the Earth" to strengthen European values and cultural education. In the first project in 2025, the ensemble performed together with a choir and musicians from the Sofia Philharmonic at an altitude of 2,700 meters in the Pirin Mountains in Bulgaria. They brought the entire orchestra, the choir and a grand piano to the mountains of the Pirin National Park for a film shoot, which was reported on in 17 newspapers and on Bulgarian national television. The film 'Protectors of the Earth', which was made by the young people, makes this creative collaboration tangible and serves
a plea for humanity, international cohesion and the preservation of nature worth protecting.
nature worth protecting. With this commitment, the Aramis Orchestra now reaches thousands of people of all ages and also addresses target groups that do not normally have access to culture.
Through numerous collaborations with organizations, companies, decision-makers and political actors, the aim is to inspire future-oriented thinking. Because in a world that will face more and more challenges in the future, young people want to dare to do something together. In spite of all this, or precisely because of it - because sometimes we only look and don't see, but with the Aramis Orchestra we finally start to listen to each other.
