Violin, guitar and double bass come together in the Astor Trio. Alexander Prushinskiy, Tobias Kassung and Stanislav Anischenko have played their way into the elite of German chamber music ensembles with this unusual line-up.
This formation was created through the long-standing collaboration between Tobias Kassung as artistic director of the Cologne Classical Ensemble and the musicians of this ensemble: the violinist and 1st concertmaster of the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra, Alexander Prushinskiy, and the solo bassist of the WDR Symphony Orchestra, Stanislav Anischenko. Since 2018, the Astor Trio has also expanded its program with solo cellist Lena Kravets.
The combination of violin, guitar and double bass, originally known from Sinti-Jazz and flamenco groups, experiences its musical emancipation from the folk music side to serious classical music in the Astor Trio. The three musicians present a new form of chamber music with mature arrangements, virtuoso voice leading and soloistic demands from all three instruments. The unbridled joy of playing and rhythmic conciseness have remained; what has been added is the sophisticated playing and perfect sound aesthetics. Old and new music, serious and popular classical music thus come together and are uniquely combined by the trio's creative impulse to search for contemporary forms of expression. The result is a purposeful variety that is never arbitrary and shows how the masterpieces of music always build on each other.
