Ateliergemeinschaft BLOCK1

In the artist's words:

The non-profit association BLOCK 1 e. V. was founded in 1998 to create work opportunities for artists in Bielefeld. A further aim of the association is to promote art and culture in the region. To this end, the association has been running a studio hall in Bielefeld-Sieker since 1999, which currently has eleven workshops and studios. Artists from the fields of sculpture, painting, printmaking, drawing, objects and textiles are represented.

Between 2000 and 2016, BLOCK 1 was the sponsoring association of "galerie 61" in Bielefeld's city center. There, an autonomous project team exhibited young, not yet established positions on the market in over 110 exhibitions.

Since 2018, the studio community has opened its doors twice a year by participating in the Nachtansichten and the Advent art market "Kunst in die Tasche", which takes place every year on the 2nd Advent. The studio members provide insights into their individual work situations, design exhibition situations, art campaigns and art lotteries. In addition, changing national guest artists present their work in the exhibitions.
