BEACHPEOPLE

In the artist's words:

A "has-been" is someone who was once famous. The past tense implies that
that this is no longer the case. To give yourself this self-designation, you not only need a certain amount of self-irony, but also a temporal and emotional distance from what
what has been. Malte Huck presents "has-been", his first album as a solo artist, under the name BEACHPEOPLE.

It's been four years since he left AnnenMayKantereit as bassist. Four years is not much time in terms of a human life. But enough to make a fresh start. Huck realized that he needed it about a year earlier on a trip through the USA and Mexico. The EP "i'll be gone for a little while" from 2022 was the first sign of life as BEACHPEOPLE and a stylistic harbinger of the album, for which work began at the end of 2023 in Austria at Lake Wolfgang. At just under 36 minutes in length, "has-been" has become a very personal archive of the stages of his life to date and the farewells associated with them. The one from the band that brought him to the country's biggest stages.

To his friend Julian, alias Lord Folter, who died in 2023 and to whom 7 seconds of silence are dedicated. The one about old self-designs, old dependencies, old ideas of what life should or should have looked like. The album cover shows Malte as a child, 6 or 7 years old. His face is hidden in his hands, perhaps he is counting to 10 and is looking for us. Coming of age also means closing chapters at some point that could be even longer. Or to see new beginnings where the light is falling:
