CocoonDance

In the artist's words:

CocoonDance was founded in 2000 by choreographer Rafaële Giovanola and dramaturge Rainald Endraß and has been based at the Theater im Ballsaal and the Swiss Théâtre du Crochetan Monthey since 2004. Since its foundation, the company has created over 50 full-length productions, has performed on all continents and has received several awards. Pieces by the CocoonDance Company have already been invited to the Tanzplattform Deutschland twice and the company has received excellence funding from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2024.

With its productions, CocoonDance not only breaks the spatial boundaries of the conventional stage experience, but also plays with our body perception in a sophisticated way. In their search for the 'unthought body', CocoonDance have radically deconstructed traditional body images in their latest pieces and merged them into completely new concepts. The company's work can best be explained as a reflection on dance and the body itself, as a shift in the dance space away from the narrative space towards a space of perception and thought.
