Dean Newman

In the artist's words:

I'm Dean Newman, a Welsh-born songwriter, blues guitarist and singer who has lived in Bochum for over 20 years. Music has been with me from an early age as I come from a musical family. My father, Cal Newman, a blues legend from Wales, was a great inspiration to me. After his death in 2014, I took over his instruments, which I now use in my performances.

My music is strongly rooted in the blues tradition, but I also incorporate influences from folk, jazz and rock. My playing style is powerful and emotional, often influenced by personal stories and experiences. With my band, "Dean & The Blue Bros", I perform regularly in Bochum and the surrounding area. We play our own songs as well as cover versions of well-known blues, country and rockabilly songs, which has earned us a loyal fan base.

A special highlight for me was performing at the "Bochum Total" festival in 2023, which underlined my connection to the local music scene.
