Dieter Balzer

Dieter Balzer, *1958 Neuhofen (Palatinate), lives in Berlin

Dieter Balzer follows the tradition of concrete art. He cuts up MDF boards and uses them to construct strictly geometric, architectural-looking objects for walls and rooms. They are called horizontals, orthogonals or conjunctions. Dieter Balzer covers them with color foils, which in their accuracy of fit reproduce the struts of the MDF constructions, but counteract them in their colorfulness. The intrinsic life of the color thus cancels out the materiality of the object and transfers the object into the spiritual, the concrete.
