Dressed Like Boys

Jelle Denturck is a Belgian musician who most people probably know as the lead singer of the indie rock band DIRK. However, the former philosophy student was never able to express his profound thoughts or provide overly personal insights in the band context. A solo project was needed - and so Dressed Like Boys was born. A project with which Denturck is now about to release his first solo debut album. Dressed Like Boys was born out of a moment of hopelessness in which the Belgian had the feeling of being stuck. Detached from DIRK. he managed to reflect on intimate thoughts and wrap themes such as self-acceptance or life as a queer person in poetic lyrics and a softer sound palette. The timeless singer/songwriter sound is inspired by legendary artists such as Elton John, David Bowie, John Lennon, Nina Simone and Sufjan Stevens. Denturck combines elements of the 70s with a modern pop sound and allows himself to sound softer than with DIRK. From odes to his homeland to dark times after the death of his mother and addiction among his friends, the upcoming album "Dressed Like Boys" depicts important episodes in the Belgian's life. The impressive double single "Pride" and "Stonewall Riots Forever" were recently released, with which Denturck also sheds light on important moments in queer history. The full album will be released on August 29, before going on tour a few months later.
