The Ensemble Lachrymae - chamber choir and baroque orchestra on period instruments - is a young, highly qualified professional ensemble with a clear artistic vision: the cultivation and rediscovery of unknown baroque music at the highest level in historical performance practice, combined with contemporary, often interdisciplinary approaches and a unique interplay with new music. Its size, line-up and artistic profile are unique on the cultural scene. Ensemble Lachrymae is one of the youngest professional ensembles and also brings together musicians from a wide variety of national backgrounds, most of whom are at the beginning of promising careers. Their artistic self-image is characterized by the conviction that historical music should not be a museum, but should be given new relevance through innovative concert formats, interdisciplinary projects and the connection with contemporary music.

The work ranges from authentic performances to world premieres of contemporary works with historical instruments to experimental formats that build bridges between different genres. In this way, large-scale early and new music is brought to a young and diverse audience. The ensemble is increasingly devoting itself to music theater and the promotion of young talent and intends to make these areas the core of its work in the coming years.
