Eugene Nam was born in Sydney, Australia, in 2000.
He received his first piano lessons at the age of 7 before continuing his professional musical education at the Pre College of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Early successes soon became apparent when he was awarded 1st prize at the Sydney Eisteddfod. At the age of 16, he was accepted as a junior student at the Weimar University of Music in Gerlinde Otto's class. During this time, he already gave many concerts and won 1st prize at the national competition "Jugend Musiziert".
Since 2021 he has been studying at the Cologne University of Music and Dance in the master's program in the class of Prof. Sheila Arnold, and since 2023 he has continued his studies in the concert exam program. At the International Carl Maria von Weber Competition in Dresden 2021, he was awarded the prize for the best interpretation of a piece by Carl Maria von Weber and at the International Chopin Competition in Darmstadt 2022 he became a semi-finalist and received excellent reviews in the press. In 2022, he was also included in the "Live MusicNow" project initiated by Yehudi Menuhin. He won a prize at the "Kurd Aschenbrenner Chopin Tage 2022" festival and was invited to perform piano recitals at the International Chopin Festival
Hamburg 2023 and a concert series by the Blüthner company in 2023.
Eugene Nam also received valuable inspiration in masterclasses with Tobias Koch (fortepiano), Edoardo Torbianelli, Alexander Melnikov, Nikolai Demidenko and Janusz Olejniczak. His inspiring experiences with historical instruments allow him to question his understanding of intonation, phrasing, articulation and pedalization. Not only the clavichord or the harpsichord, but especially the Pleyel fortepiano provoke new ways of thinking about the performance style of the 19th century and a more personal approach to the work of Frédéric Chopin.
