Italo-pop with Rhineland cheer: GiGi Girls from Cologne

Cologne, sunshine, synthesizers—and the feeling of strolling through a vacation video from the early ’80s. GiGi Girls are an audiovisual Italo-pop project that sounds as if the beaches of Rimini and the Rhine had met somewhere in the middle and decided to start a band together. The result: catchy melodies, analog synthesizers, harmonized vocals—and an energy you can feel even before the first note is played.

Behind GiGi Girls are Laura Mancini, Janosch Pugnaghi, and Hannah Berle. Their sound blends classic Italo-pop from the ’70s and ’80s with dream-pop sensibilities and modern synth-pop—driven by melodies that stick in your head instantly and an aesthetic that’s consistently retro without ever feeling like a museum piece. Laura Mancini speaks six languages, which should open up even more doors for the trio in the future—songs in Italian, German, and many other languages are not uncommon.

From “La Grotta Dell Amore” to “Greatest Hits”: the releases

In 2023, their first single , “La Grotta Dell Amore,” was released—early proof that GiGi Girls know exactly what they want. This was followed by “Pantaloni Rossi” (2024), the singles “Ragazzo, ” “Baci Al Sole,” and “Küsse in der Sonne” (all 2025), as well as the album single “Amore Per Sempre” (February 2026). In March 2026, “Il Futuro feat. Jaakko Eino Kalevi” was released, followed shortly thereafter by “L’Anima feat. John Moods” —both serving as a preview of what was released on April 17, 2026, via Papercup Records: the debut album “Greatest Hits.” The title says it all—with a confident wink included. It was created between Cologne and Italy, partly during an intensive “GiGi Bootcamp” at Mancini’s family home, and partly in Janosch Pugnaghi’s bedroom studio. The warm, immediate sound is no coincidence, but rather a deliberate concept.
